The University Bound Program has taken the initiative to work with the Virgin Islands Department of Labor to serve our youth this summer to offer a 4-week Career Exploration program targeting youths 14-15-years-old in the Virgin Islands, focusing on the development of research skills, employability and soft skills, and producing knowledge-based individuals for post-secondary occupational/academic training or the job market.
The synergy of workforce development training and exceptional customer service creates an unparalleled learning experience. UB provided customized workshops that enabled students to develop a range of workplace-relevant, transferable skills and effectively communicate these skills to employers, as well as plan and initiate their professional development. These workshops supported participants in practicing their professional skills in a safe space where they are supported. Summer Career Exploration was an effort to prepare VI students for the world of work/higher education and build their soft skills and preparedness for professionalism.
