This is the first year of the Staff Council Awards (inaugural year). The name of the award is 2026 UVI Staff Council Excellence, Peer & People’s Choice Awards. Employees were nominated by their fellow peers in 5 different categories. A confidential survey was sent out to all employees campus wide about a month ago. The categories were as follows:
1. Distinguished Performance Award
Consistently exceeds performance goals. Demonstrates high productivity and quality of work. Introduced new processes, tools, products, and/or cost-saving ideas that were implemented and produced measurable value. Outstanding individual contributions to UVI’s goals. Highest output and/or impact within their role.
2. Values in Action Award
Consistently goes beyond assigned duties. Volunteers for challenging tasks. Delivers results under pressure. Exemplifies UVI values (e.g., integrity, teamwork) and serves as a positive role model. Provides exceptional customer service and receives positive feedback. Effectively resolves complex issues. Actively supports colleagues, promotes teamwork, and contributes to group success. Demonstrates strong cross-departmental collaboration.
3. Leadership and Mentorship Award
Inspires and motivates others. Demonstrates strong decision-making and effective communication. Drives team performance. Guides and coaches colleagues. Shares knowledge, supports skill development, and contributes to career growth.
4. Positive Impact Award
Maintains a positive outlook and boosts morale. Handles challenges with professionalism and grace. Consistently meets deadlines. Produces high-quality work. Demonstrates dependability.
5. Rising Star Award
Demonstrates significant personal or professional growth. Shows improved performance or overcame challenges. Recognized by peers as helpful, collaborative, enjoyable to work with, or a positive contributor. Exhibits exceptional performance within the first 1–2 years of employment. Quick learner with strong early impact.
