Ridge to Reef STEAM camp program, marks its first year on St. Croix!

The Ridge to Reef STEAM camp, a dynamic new program, has successfully completed its inaugural year on St. Croix! This impactful initiative was made possible through a powerful collaboration and generous sponsorships from several key organizations, including:

  • The Virgin Islands’ Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (VI-EPSCoR)
  • The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR)
  • The Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museum
  • The Department of Labor’s Summer Youth Career Exploration Program

Over 400 enthusiastic young minds participated in the camp, engaging in rich curriculums and exploring resources focused on environmental sciences, from the depths of the sea to the heights of the land.

Program Highlights: Fostering Young Earth Explorers

This program was designed to inspire Youth Earth Explorers by immersing them in a blend of science, life skills, and career exploration. The core of the curriculum focused on terrestrial science and its critical role in the island’s economy.

Participants engaged in a variety of hands-on activities, including:

  • Watershed hikes
  • Farm tours
  • One-on-one sessions with professional biologists, entomologists, and hydrologists
  • A coastal excursion on St. Croix

Beyond scientific learning, the program also emphasized the development of fundamental life skills, providing young explorers with valuable experience to help them succeed!
