Dear UVI Community,
Please join me in warmly welcoming Dr. Denise Y. Colbert, DDS, BSN, RN who has joined the University of the Virgin Islands as Director of Health Services on the Albert A. Sheen Campus, effective October 13, 2025.
Dr. Colbert brings to this role an impressive and multifaceted background in nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, and public health education. A proud UVI alumna, she holds both an Associate and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of the Virgin Islands.
Her expansive career also includes a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Howard University, postgraduate orthodontic training from Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Clinical Pharmacy from Florida A&M University, among other academic achievements.
With more than 30 years of healthcare experience—including roles as a registered nurse, dental officer, health educator, and case manager—Dr. Colbert has demonstrated unwavering commitment to community wellness, equitable care, and student-centered advocacy. She has served in leadership capacities with the Virgin Islands National Guard, and the Department of Health, where she spearheaded initiatives in dental readiness, outreach, and grant-funded clinic development.

As Director, Dr. Colbert will oversee campus health services, the campus essential needs pantry, deliver direct care to students, and lead efforts in health education, prevention, and wellness promotion. She is deeply passionate about student empowerment through health literacy and is excited to serve as a partner in the academic success and well-being of our Buccaneer community.
