Letter from the President: October 2025

Dear UVI Community,

In the month of October, Homecoming is a special time at the University of the Virgin Islands.  At every university, homecoming is more than a celebration — it is a cherished tradition that reconnects students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends in honoring the shared legacy, the institution’s existence and embracing the bright future. Here at UVI, homecoming is still a relatively new tradition, but it is quickly becoming one of the many meaningful moments of our academic year — a time when our entire VI community comes together in university pride and celebration.

Here at UVI, homecoming reminds us of who we are: a Caribbean community built on resilience, excellence, and tradition. It is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and alumni, to reflect on the vision of those who built this great institution, and to renew our commitment to the generations yet to come.  Homecoming creates a bridge between past and present by bringing together different generations of the university community, allowing for shared experiences and the transfer of advice from alumni to current students.

This year’s Homecoming Weekend is an opportunity for all of us to come together — whether at athletic games, cultural events, or alumni gatherings — to show our Buccaneer spirit and to celebrate what it means to be One UVI. I encourage each of you to wear your UVI gear, take part in the festivities, reconnect with old friends, and create new memories that will carry us forward.

Let us honor the legacy of UVI and the promise of its future — together.  I look forward to seeing you at Homecoming 2025!

With Care & Buccaneer Pride,

Dr. Safiya George
President, University of the Virgin Islands
