Letter from the President: June 2026

By President, Dr. Safiya George

Dear Students, Faculty & Staff,

As we close another remarkable academic year at the University of the Virgin Islands, we do so with a sense of pride, gratitude, and purpose.

This season of commencement reminded us that each of us has the power to leave a lasting imprint on the world. Whether in our classrooms, laboratories, offices, communities, or on the commencement stage, we make our mark through the lives we touch, the opportunities we create, and the excellence we pursue every day. Our graduates now join a growing community of UVI alumni whose contributions will shape the future of the Virgin Islands and beyond.

Throughout this academic year, our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters demonstrated what is possible when talent meets determination and purpose. Together, we celebrated achievements, overcame challenges, expanded opportunities, and advanced the mission of this great institution. Each success story, large or small, represents a thumbprint left on the legacy of UVI and a contribution to the future we are building together.

As you explore this newsletter and reflect on the highlights of the year, I encourage you to consider the mark you are making. Let your presence inspire others. Let your work open doors. Let your commitment create opportunities that endure long after the moment has passed.

Thank you for being an essential part of the UVI family and for helping to shape a future defined by excellence, innovation, and impact. I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in the year ahead.

With Care,

Dr. Safiya George

President, University of the Virgin Islands
