Letter from the President: January 2026

by Dr. Safiya George

Dear UVI Community,

As we begin the Spring 2026 semester, I extend a warm welcome to our students, faculty, staff, and alumni. A new term brings renewed energy—and a clear expectation that we continue moving forward with focus, discipline, and purpose.

To our students —whether you are beginning your UVI journey or moving steadily toward graduation—know that every step you take this semester matters.

Stay focused, stay curious, and remain confident in the path you are building for yourselves and for those who will follow.

To our faculty—your role in shaping thinkers, leaders, and problem-solvers has never been more important. Thank you for preparing our students not only to succeed academically, but to engage the world with knowledge, purpose, and impact.

To our staff—this spring, we are sharpening how we work: simplifying processes where complexity slows us down, standardizing the basics that should work well every time, and applying operational excellence so that momentum does not end when meetings do. I appreciate your input in our journey.  Listening sessions with your component leaders have been set up to gather your input. Your input matters! Progress at UVI must be visible, sustained, and translated into action.

To our alumni—you remain an essential part of UVI’s story and its future. I encourage you to stay actively engaged with your alma mater, to share your expertise, your voice, and your time, and to partner with us as we continue strengthening UVI for the next generation.

I look forward to all that we will accomplish together this spring as we continue building a stronger, more agile, and student-centered University of the Virgin Islands.

With Care,

Dr. Safiya George,

President of the University of the Virgin Islands
