Dear UVI Community,
At the University of the Virgin Islands, our identity as an HBCU is reflected not only in our history, but in our daily commitment to educating the whole student. We understand that student success extends beyond the classroom—it is shaped by mentorship, cultural grounding, leadership development, and a deep sense of purpose.
During Black History Month, we pause to honor the resilience, brilliance, and contributions of those who paved the way, while recognizing our responsibility to continue advancing opportunity for future generations.
Yet our celebration of heritage is not confined to a single month. At UVI, we affirm this legacy every day through how we prepare our students to lead, to serve, and to make meaningful impact wherever their journeys take them. As ambassadors of both this great institution and our Virgin Islands community, our students carry forward a tradition of excellence, resilience, and pride. When they show up in the world, they do so as an extension of our territory—equipped with the knowledge, character, and confidence to help shape a stronger future for us all.
With Care,
Dr. Safiya George,
President of the University of the Virgin Islands
