Congratulations to UVI alumna Dr. Afiya Fredericks on an incredible achievement!
Dr. Fredericks, who built the foundation for her journey in psychology at UVI, has been awarded $649,386 from the National Science Foundation to explore how college instructors influence students’ sense of belonging and success in science and engineering at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Working alongside co-principal investigators Dr. Dhymsy Vixamar-Owens and Dr. Nidia Reudas-Gracia, Dr. Fredericks will help deepen understanding of the practices that empower HBCU students to feel supported, connected and prepared to thrive in STEM.
